Good point John. And analytics is known as one of SharePoint's weaknesses. But SharePoint is so basic and vanilla in so many ways it really has a lot of weaknesses, but offers a lot. Shawn Shell summed-up MOSS quite nicely in my previous article, "SharePoint does a lot of things, but does few things very well."
It's a platform, a starting point or basic system for smaller businesses, or project teams -- its not good for an enterprise intranet or collaboration platform, outside of the team sites functionality. Having said that, we use SharePoint for our intranet and I'm not complaining (but we're a small company with very basic needs).
